Benmore is a village in the Dunoon area in Argyll and Bute, Scotland situated close to the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park within easy reach of Glasgow. Benmore is surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the Cowal Peninsula with lochs, rivers, forests and mountains; this idyllic setting is popular with tourist offering a complete range of holiday accommodation from self-catering caravan and lodges to luxury hotels. There are a variety of places to eat from country inns, restaurants, pubs, tea-rooms and cafes and many leisure facilities including golf courses, walking trails, cycle-paths, fishing and water-sports facilities. Attractions include The Benmore Centre, an outdoor activity centre offering adventure activities, sketching and photography. The Benmore Botanic Garden is a large botanic garden in the Eachaig Valley between Dunoon and Loch Eck, with woodland setting, a spectacular avenue of Giant Redwoods, a waterfall and a café and shop. There are forest trails in the Argyll Forest with the opportunity to see red squirrels, golden eagles and ospreys. The Loch Goil Centre has motor boat hire, fishing and areas for picnics. The Castle House Museum is in Dunoon, the principal town in Argyll, telling the story of Cowal archaeology, heritage and culture, there are good shopping facilities, supermarkets, craft and gift shops and The Cowal Gathering (Highland Games) is held here each August.
