Ashkirk is a small rural village in the Borders region of Scotland situated south of Selkirk and north of Hawick, approximately one hour’s drive from Edinburgh. The village dates back to 1116 and has a historic church. Ashkirk is ideally located as a central base for touring the border towns of Scotland as well as the English cities of Carlisle and Newcastle. The tranquil village has a garage, a pub and scenic views of the Border hills; it is popular location for sight-seeing, walking, cycling and nature-watching with a variety of plants, birds and animals. The nearby border towns provide shopping facilities, hotels, holiday accommodation, inns, pubs, restaurants and a variety of places to eat. Attractions in Ashkirk include the 18-hole Woll golf course, the Syntons Mains driving range and the Dryden horse riding centre. Other attractions include the traditional weaver’s factory and mill shop selling fine tweeds and cashmere; the Bowhill House and Country Park; the Whitlaw Mosses National Nature Reserve and the Sir Walter Scot’s Courthouse museum all in Selkirk and the Cragbank Woods National Nature Reserve and the Drumlanrig’s Tower Visitor Centre both in Hawick. There are driving tours operating to visit the sights of Selkirk and Langholm. Langholm has an impressive museum depicting the history of the Clan Armstrong.
