The village of Ingham lies in the English county of Suffolk. It can be found about five miles to the north of Bury St Edmunds, on the A143 on the way towards Thetford. The village is small, containing a single pub (The Cadogan Arms) a church and a post office. The village has a large village green and was served by the railway until the 1950's. The Cadogan Arms was closed in 2006 for refurbishment, but is now open and offers excellent facilities, including the Surf and Turf concept restaurant, WIFI facilities in the lounge, plus a modern bar and superb rooms. A few miles to the north east is Thetford Forest. This was created following World War I in order to provide strategic timber reserves. The creation of this forest helped alleviate the frequent sand blows which sometimes made driving conditions difficult in the area. Located in the forest is the area known as Grimes Graves. This is a large Neolithic flint mining area which was worked between around 3000 and 1900 BC, though some believe that the mines may have continued in use for a long time after this. The site is now run by English Heritage. It is open to the public and you can even descend via a ladder into one of the mine shafts to a depth of about 30 feet. It is the only such shaft open to the public in the United Kingdom.
