A traditional seaside town with a shingle beach, where fishermen still pull up their boats and ply their wares from huts on the beach. The town has a local museum in the historic Moot Hall, a model yacht pond for the children.
Nearby at Framlingham and Orford there are Norman Castles, and the most romantic ruin in the country is Leiston Abbey set in beautiful countryside.
Part of the countryside around Aldeburgh has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and supports a rare and specialised community of wildlife, which includes the nightjar and silver-studded blue butterfly. The coastal forest of Tangham, Tunstall and Dunwich are managed not only to produce timber, but also to benefit wildlife and visitors. The forest can be explored on many way-marked trails and bridleways (leaflets available from Tourist Information Centres in the District) The coastal mudflats and river estuaries support many species including avocets, nightjars and bitterns.
The Aldeburgh Foundation is world-renowned for its Aldeburgh Festival, and many other concerts and festivals throughout the year. Most of the major concerts are held at the Snape Maltings Concert hall, and other venues throughout the area, hold smaller concerts and events
