George Crabbe

Born 1754. Died 1832 - English poet.
Set up as surgeon in Aldeburgh. Ventured into London’s literary world but lived in poverty until received patronage. Published The Library (1781). Ordained in 1872. Became famous on writing The Village (1783) but then wrote nothing for 24 years. Poems included The Parish Register (1807) and The Borough (1810).
