Nairn is an ancient fishing town in the Highlands of Scotland, situated on the River Nairn on the south shore of the Moray Firth, 16 miles north-east of Inverness. Archaeological ‘Clava Cairns’ on the south side of Culloden Moor indicate the area has been inhabited since the early Bronze Age. Nairn is a traditional sea-side town and popular holiday resort, famous for its championship Golf links and beautiful award winning beaches with the sea-front stretching to the RSPB Reserve and Culbin Forest in the east. The picturesque harbour is busy with pleasure crafts, sailing clubs and wind-surfers. The town’s Leisure Park has crazy-golf, putting and croquet, there is a sports club, an indoor swimming pool and two 18-hole golf courses. There are walks and cycle trails among the rivers, forests and hills, the local stables offer beach riding and the Rivers Nairn and Findhorn are used for fishing. Nairn is an ideal base to visit the Highlands with B&B’s, self-catering accommodation, hotels, restaurants, a selection of shops including an ice-cream shop, theatre, museum and library. Attractions nearby include Inverness, Loch Ness and the Moray Firth coastline. Historic sites include Culloden battlefield with visitor centre, Fort George, Brodie Castle and Cawdor Castle.
