Ockley is a small village that dates back centuries, close to the Sussex/Surrey border and is surrounded by countryside and the picturesque North Downs. Home to 850 people and the largest Village Green in England, where the peppering of historic houses add to the charm, as does the impressive 13th Century Church of St Margaret’s. Close by is the Hannah Peschar Gallery & Sculpture Garden, the haunting and thought provoking art work is set within enchanting grounds that echo to the sound of rippling water, where brilliant pieces of sculpture are to be seen against a backdrop of Nature….if that’s not enough art, then a visit to the Forge and Dragon Gallery, set next to an operational Forge in a 16th Century building will satisfy the hungriest of appetites. For an interesting story that’s waiting to be told a trip to Denbies Wine Estate explains the wonders from grape to glass, all set in an attractive Vineyard. Or for the energetic don a pair of sturdy shoes and climb Leith Hill which overlooks the village, perched on the very top is an 18th Century Gothic Tower with stunning views of the Sea and London… Or perhaps the magnificence of ’Polesden Lacey’ is more for you, where fine furniture and silver jostle for attention next to ‘Old Masters’ paintings, and the sumptuous splendour from a graceful age is waiting to be savoured……..
