Coulsdon is an interesting town positioned in the County of Surrey. It dates far back in time to the Ancient Anglo Saxons and beyond. From a small settlement of cottages and farms which nestled around a village green and duck pond it grew, today's visitors will discover a mixture of old cottages and houses, together with new and modern buildings which line the streets. It's a leafy town which nudges the boundary of Croydon, and has a large area known as Coulsdon Common sitting the edge of the oldest part of the town. Ancient burial mounds can be found on Farthing Downs which stretches for miles and is sandwiched between the older historical part of the town which is slightly raised and overlooks the newer part. A stroll around the town will uncover an impressive 13th Century church dedicated to St John which has stained glass windows and a spire dominating the skyline, which stands on the site of an earlier church. There is a good choice of shops on offer, restaurants catering to every taste and a collection of pubs and bars. Whether it's hotels or B&B's there is a range of places to stay for those who wish to linger, and excellent transport links to nearby Croydon and the City.
