Ashtead is a large village with links back to Roman times, positioned only 18 miles from London and is home to thirteen and a half thousand people. The 12th Century church of St Giles stands on the site of earlier buildings and Roman tiles and other treasures makes it an interesting interlude. Close by is Epsom Race Course where the famous Derby is held, and whether the winner is chosen or not makes memories of the pleasurable kind. Or perhaps a walk in Ashtead Common National Nature Reserve will please, as it spreads over 400 acres with pathways through ancient wooded areas with a delightful variety of wildlife. There is always the opportunity of catching a curtain call at the Theatre in Leatherhead, or choose one of the 406 seats on offer as comedy/drama/ or a musical unfolds at the Epsom Playhouse. For excitement of a different kind Chessington World of Adventures cannot fail to please, or perhaps Brooklands Museum is more your thing, where the history of Aviation and Motor Racing is explained through fantastic exhibits, anyone for tennis…. Then the All England Tennis Club Museum has scintillating exhibits in their state of the art museum, complete with outfits worn in the 1880’s to the 200 degree cinema with real Centre Court action……..
