The town of Baginton lies to the south of Coventry in the West Midlands with the ruins of the 13th century castle is in the village centre. The castle in fact was originally built as a fortified manor house at that time and was later converted to a castle by Sir William Bagot in the 14th century, today little remains of this once impressive structure. Baginton was also at one time home to the Roman legions that invaded Britain and Baginton is home to a (partial) reconstruction of a Roman Fort. The Lunt Fort was first established here around 64AD, rediscovered in the 1930’s it was not until the 1960’s that local archaeological activity further unearthed this feature and which is today open to the public. During the Second World War the Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft factory was located here on the outskirts of Baginton and in 1935 Coventry Airport was planned to be built alongside the factory, from here the Whitley and Lancaster bombers were built with the factory closing in 1965. The airfield is still operational, but nowadays for civilian aircraft and the airport is also home to the Midland Air Museum
