Longstanton is an attractive leafy village set within the county of Cambridgeshire in Eastern England, and it is home to just over seventeen hundred people. It has an intriguing history which dates as far back as Roman times, there are a wealth of houses and cottages from across the years, and two fabulous Medieval churches, a legacy of when two villages combined and became one in 1953. The oldest of the churches was built in 1230 it is dedicated to St Michael and is one of only two churches within Cambridgeshire that remains thatched, inside visitors will uncover an impressive 13th Century coloured glass window, whilst outside there is a Holy Well. The village has a strong agricultural heritage when the rich fertile land provided a living, and there was once a Mill which stood until the 18th Century. The village expanded rapidly when the RAF arrived in the 1940's, today's visitors however can enjoy the picturesque woodland and surrounding countryside where a network of footpaths and cycle ways unfold, there are shops in the High Street, and a three hundred year old pub which continues to welcome its visitors, and as it is only six miles or so from the ancient university city of Cambridge it's perfectly placed.
