We recently stayed at Burwell Park caravan and camping site and regret to say that we were more than disappointed. The whole place is badly neglected, dated and far from clean, the chemical disposal facility was blocked and extremely dirty for the whole time we were there. Had we been given the opportunity to see the facilities prior to payment we would not have stayed. Payment by cash, is requested immediately on arrival at the so called 'Reception'. An utter disgrace, thankfully we had our own shower and toilet facilities!

Elsworth, Cambridgeshire

The George and Dragon is a marvellous restaurant/pub. We use it several times a month and it is our number one choice for any visitors to be taken out for meals.
Christmas celebrations/meals are the best in this area and we wouldn't go anywhere else.

I was born in Gorefield in 1935. Went to the primary school opposite the Woodman's Arms.
Married in Gorefield at St Paul's on Dec 8th 1956. We lived in Hunstanton 1956-1958. Had a son in Queen Elizabeth Maternity unit 1957.We then moved to Kansas USA.We now live in Columbus Mississippi.
My husband John and I have been married 53years come Dec8th. We have two other children both born in Kansas.
My home will always be Gorefield. I visit there when ever I can. Neville Hunns is my "little" brother. P Brock

Review of Horseheath by Sharon on November 13th, 2007
Horseheath is an historic village, just 12 miles from the city of Cambridge. The delightful church of All Saints dates back 600 years, with many secret treasures. Or maybe Linton Zoo and Gardens is more for you, home to Giant Tortoises, Tarantulas, Lions, Tigers and Owls, set in 18 acres with a children’s Play Area just waiting to be enjoyed.
Or for the lovers of history Anglesey Abbey will not disappoint, this imposing Jacobean style country house was built in 1600 on the site of an Augustinian Priory. Once inside there are many treasures including a rare collection of artwork and a large collection of clocks, outside is just as impressive with a working Water Mill and attractive gardens. Or there is always Saffron Walden Museum that has exhibits from the Ice Age, through to Norman and Medieval times, add the two skeletons set under glass in the floor makes for an interesting visit, set in a meadow containing the ruins of a 12th Century castle. Or how about a visit to Chilford Hall Vineyard, where a guided tour of the Winery explains the journey of the grape, the ‘Vineyard Trail’ shows the different vines and travels close to the ‘Icknield Way‘.

Istayed at houghton mill caravan site in 2009 and had a fantastic week. So much so that we are going again this year in June. The village is lovely and the caravan site is splendid every facility you need. We are just wishing for the weather to be as good as it was in 2009. We must mention the village shop as they are so accomodating and friendly and provide a great service and variety of goods.It is our favourite place to visit up till now. Oh and by the way we fell on the weekend they had quite a few open gardens for their charity so we hope to hit on this year as it was really enjoyable

Stayed for two days in Cheriton House, Mill Street, Houghton (Huntingdon). Wonderful place and a dito welcome. Friendly hosts and a lovely Victorian house.
Will go back there when staying in the Cambridge region.

Melbourn is a large village with pretty thatched cottages in Southern Cambridgeshire. Once the site of a Saxon settlement and a Roman Camp. The Norman church of All Saints is positioned in the heart of the Village, boasting eight bells whose melodic sound echoes regularly. The surrounding area is peppered with interesting places to visit such as Shepreth Wildlife Park, where you can enjoy the wonders of Mother Nature, home to Tigers , Monkeys, Otters and Owls. There is even a chance to feed the Ponies, pet a Rabbit or kiss a wolf! Or perhaps the gentler side of nature will tempt, Fowlmere with it’s impressive Reedbeds, natural springs and stream is home to Turtle Doves, Swans and Kingfishers.
A visit to Royston Cave is an interesting interlude where the stunning wall carvings are thought to date back to Medieval times. Or why not have a go on skis or snowboards at Bassingbourne Snow Sports Centre, where the slopes are floodlit, and the chance to have professional lessons are always a possibility. Perhaps the grace and beauty of Wimpole Hall is more for you, the majestic 18th Century House sits in a wooded park gives a true insight into life above and below stairs.

My partner and I went to visit some relatives a couple of weeks ago in Peterborough and stayed here.
How close is this hotel to the city with some fantastic views on the rowing lake and River Nene. Even the air ambulance landed whilst we were there.
They were in the process of redecorating all of the public areas and the manager was telling me that the bedrooms are being done over the next few months.
Food was great too - either eat in the main restaurant or try out one of the Two Meals offer. Very tasty.
Quiet central location - fab, fab, fab!

I have recently stayed at the Marriott Hotel in Peterborough with my husband as part of a coach party. When we arrived there had been a power cut and we were unable to get water, electricity or food. I have only the highest praise for the hotel and staff who, in the most difficult circunmstances, made every effort to attend to our needs. We were escorted down the stairs by a kind man with a torch and transported to the sister hotel in Huntingdon Here we were provided with dinner, which was excellent considering the short notice. The staff at both hotels were helpful and professional and their efforts were greatly appreciated.

My husband and I visited England in 2004, We stayed a a wonderful cottage in a town neighboring Sawston. We went on daily excurions, but out of our 17 night in England 12 of those nights we ate at the greyhound pub. Oh the wonders of the food there. A truly gasronomic delight. The mushroom appetizer, the stilton chicken, Neither of which I have been able to replicate. Should any know how the garlic mushrooms were made or the chicken dish please feel free to email recipes. The hospitality was amazing also. Ruth was our waitress and she was friendly, informative, and she put up with the crazy americans who ate dinner at 4:30,pm. If ever in Sawston stop in and treat your Tummy.

Our family loved living in St.Ives. As Americans we really enjoyed the market and I meet My best friend in the world there. To visit is a true joy and to walk along the river and feed the birds is very relaxing. This is real England and the people could not be nicer!!! I hope to return we miss St.Ives and the wonderful people. :)

We have just spent a perfect Autumns afternoon at the The Wheel Inn. Wisbech St Mary.
A true British Coaching Inn dating from the 1700's You are immediately greeted with such a warm welcome and it is so refeshing to see such a historical building retaining it character and charm.
I was with my Mother( 74) and daughter (9) we were quite releived to find such nice hospitality and a warm welcome, especially with so many classic old country pubs being turned into 'Trendy wine bars'.
We had booked a table for Sunday lunch. It was nothing short of amazing. We were astounded and laughed when we saw the size of the plate 'chef' was carving slices of prime meat onto. Personaly I had a slice of everything and we understood immediately why the need for such large plates! 6 different veg were on offer all bright in colour and farm fresh. The gravy was hand made..Not Bisto!!
I have not enjoyed such a sunday roast in any other pub in our area.
We then went into the gardens where my daughter played and we digested our lunch over coffee.
We stayed 3 hours just reading the sunday papers while my daughter played safely with new found friends.
This afternoon was a rareity with having no real british summer to speak of, we hardly went out for sunday lunch.
After such a lovely meal today I know where I will be going rain or shine.

Went to Chequers for a family and friends party this evening. absolutely fabulous - food and ambience perfect. Would recommend The Chequers if you want good food and friendly service, a great evening
