Great Abington is a village twinned with Little Abington, resting on the south bank of the River Granta in Southern Cambridgeshire. With links back to the Bronze Age although the 854 villagers have a choice of two churches today that are separated by Abington Park, the church of St Mary’s in Great Abington dates back centuries and has fine examples of gem coloured stained glass, and is a rewarding interlude. Or perhaps the fine arched roof at 14th Century Duxford Chapel should also be on the list. A visit to nearby Chilford Hall Vineyard explains the intricacies of wine making, whether you tour around the Vineyard Trail that journeys through different vines with dramatic scenery, or stay inside and watch the bottling, or better still why not taste the wine on offer, complete with shop and café makes for an entertaining time, perhaps the wonders of the Animal Kingdom will tempt, Linton Zoo occupies 18 acres where Tigers, Giant Tortoises, Owls and many more live, why not become a Keeper for the day, all is possible here. The Imperial War Museum at Duxford has planes that fly often, with Spitfires and Bi Planes and 180 aircraft to discover, with photographs and many more exhibits proudly displayed tells a poignant story.
