Alconbury is a village in Cambridgeshire, where the Alconbury Brook meanders through the village and is spanned by a Medieval Bridge with four arches. Close by is Monkswood Nature Reserve which is an ancient woodland with many trees of Maple and Dogwood and at certain times is carpeted with Bluebells, who share the space with Owls and Nightingales. Or perhaps 900 year old Brampton Wood will tempt, as it boasts ponds, wild pear trees and is home to toadstools called ’Plumbs and Custard’. Or Perhaps an insight into Oliver Cromwell is more for you, then a trip to the Cromwell Museum has a wealth of treasures to share, set within the actual building where he went to school that reaches further back into history as far as Medieval times…… There is always the delights of the Animal Kingdom at Hamerton Zoo Park with big cats, snails from Africa and even millipedes, all set in fifteen acres of parkland. Or how about Buckden Towers, an impressive fortified Manor that turns back the pages of time for centuries, originally a palace for a Bishop and once a holding place for Katherine Of Aragon after the annulment of her marriage to Henry V111 makes for an interesting interlude.
