Abington is a tale of two villages Great Abington and Little Abington, positioned on the opposite banks of the River Granta in the historic county of Cambridgeshire, and is home to just over a thousand people. Both with a rich history that dates as far back in time as the Bronze Age when they settled here, Saxons farmed here, and an ancient route which journeys from Colchester to Cambridge was built close by. The village was divided into two just after the Norman Invasion when both were allotted to different families. Today's visitors can enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside where a network of paths can be explored, together with the ancient flint church which is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin. There is a pleasing mix of architecture lining the roads with picturesque houses, and cottages from across the ages, and a fine 15th Century building which is now home to a Pottery. There are a handful of village shops for that essential purchase, and a welcoming pub offering a drink and a bite, just as it did in the 16th Century when it was built, and, as it is only seven miles or so from the city of Cambridge it's perfectly placed.
