Malpas is a small and quaint village in South East Cheshire, off the beaten track. It is an attractive village benefitting from a number of half timbered ancient buildings. Set on the hill overlooking the main street is the parish church, St Oswald’s, a Grade I Listed building dating back to the 14th century. The road runs alongside the churchyard and sometimes late a night many a motorist has seen the ghostly shape of a person crossing the road only to look more closely and see no-one there! Malpas is probably most famous locally as a producer of cheese and since 1886 Cheshire Cheese, amongst others, has been made here. As we are looking at how well known this place is then we must make mention of Cholmondeley Castle, a gothic style castle built around 1801 from local sandstone and is today world famous for its gardens which are open to the public from April through to September and is worth the visit idf you are in the area or are close by. Malpas though remains a village at heart, it does have all the benefits of a small town but with its little side streets and old properties it does manage to retain its village feel and is within easy reach of Shropshire and Cheshire making it an excellent location for those who wish to explore the area.
