Between Darlington and Durham in County Durham, in northern England, lies the small village of Rushyford in the borough of Sedgefield. This small village is situated on the old Great North Road, just a few minutes drive from the city of Durham and three miles north of Newton Aycliffe. The Rushyford Roundabout is where the A689 meets the A167 then shortly becomes the A1(M) at junction 60. Rushyford is renowned for its wild deer and other game, providing a supply of local game, which is fully wild, not farmed. Much of which can be enjoyed in a number of local restaurants and hotels. A short way out of the village, on the road to the new town of Newton Aycliffe, lies the Woodham Golf and Country Club, built close to the site of what was once Woodham Farm and which is now the village of Woodham, a modern development built during the 1970’s. The British Conservative politician John Benedict Eden was awarded a life peerage of Rushyford, as Baron Eden of Winton, following his retirement from the House of Commons in 1983. He is the nephew of the former Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden and succeeded his father, Sir Timothy Calvert Eden, to his baronetcies in 1963, as the 9th Baronet of West Auckland.
