Barnard Castle, County Durham

Review of Barnard Castle by stan shaw on June 20th, 2006
I went to Barnard Castle School, my father was a builder and carried out many restorations on the Morrit Arms Hotel,(in the 30's ) and the hotel was owned and run by an Italian Family. The Hotel is by the Greta River with toll gates on the southern side of the Bridge. I lived in Richmond, and was a border at Barnard Castle the Morrit Arms is about 5 miles from the Town. The area has a lot to do with Dickins and DoTheBoys Hall at Bowes. The Bowes Museum is next door to the School , and is steeped in history. The Market cross in Barnard Castle is where the farmers came on Wednesday's (market day) and an aunt ofr mine from Bowes used to go there every Wednesday to sell Eggs poultry and home made Butter. The Kings Head was the main Hotel in town, and next to the river was a leather tanning factory. If the boys wanted to go into town, on Wedneswdays they had to get permission from the House Master. Hope this information is of some use to you. During the War, there was a military Hospital is a large house downstream from the bridge, and a friend and I both fell into the river one day, and went there to dry out. the food was good!!

Beamish, County Durham

Review of Beamish by Barry Miller on February 28th, 2010
Unfortunately my visit to Beamish was marred by the weather. A cold day with heavy continuous snow made outside photography difficult. However, despite this I fell in love with the theme of Beamish and plan to return later in 2010 when the weather may well be better. You do need plenty of time and plenty of energy, use the transport of the trams and village bus to see as much as you can. The different sections are wide spread so plan your visit with a site map or use Google earth. I hope you get as much from the visit as I did. Barry Miller

Coxhoe, County Durham

Review of Coxhoe by J McSorley on April 10th, 2007
My husband and I found the Old Mill at Coxhoe by chance and were very pleased that we did. The staff are welcoming, pleasant and eager to please. The room we were allocated was absolutely spotless, very comfortable and very good value for money. Our evening meal was excellent and very reasonably priced. We would have no hesitation in staying here again and would certainly recommend it to friends and family.

Review of Coxhoe by Mr & Mrs. Lang on August 12th, 2006

Darlington, County Durham

Review of Darlington by john doran on April 5th, 2007
A B C cabs in darlington, were so good to my wife and I while searching for property in the north east, We at one stage got a taxi from the airport and they charged believe me a lot money, while I was in Darlington having lunch and looking in estate agents windows, we had picked a number of houses we needed to view , a total of 18 in 6 days, I will never forget a gentleman by the name Phil Woods whom I asked for directions at abc cabs,I had told Mr Woods why we were in Darlington and responce was Dont we will look after you,After that we had put in various offers and sent in surveryors with no possitive comeback If it was not for Mr Woods and there fleet and drivers I possible would never have moved Darlington ,Hope to see you all next, Regards and Best Wishes, John & Ollie Doran

Review of Darlington by Shirley Gunnill on May 14th, 2006
I am a resident of Darlington and love the town but keep away at the moment as they are in the middle of pedestrianising the town centre and it is a mess - goodness knows what it is going to look like when it is finished in the summer of 2007. They seem to be changing the whole character of this once lovely market town.

Lanchester, County Durham

Review of Lanchester by Chris Hopps on December 13th, 2010
Leave Lanchester as it is it is a Beautifull pretty village . I was born near the village of Lanchester. I read recently that the dopy council was going to make it a one way system? what idiot council member thought of that for an idea If Norman Gall heard that he would turn in his GRAVE the mentallitity of the new people whom arrived from god knows where come up with crazy ideas then the actual old residents of Lanchester Village just them walk over the top of them wake up al the actual LANCHESTER PEOPLE wake up stop them from abusing our Home.

Sedgefield, County Durham

Review of Sedgefield by john bush on July 11th, 2007
played A,B,C,and D all great value for money A & B a bit more challenging as the fairways are alot tighter courses C & D are more for people with wayward drives they are more forgiving as the fairways are much wider but all 4 courses are challenging and no holes the same the one thing that is missing is a bar to brag about that great shot

Review of Sedgefield by john richardson on May 24th, 2006
Ive just became a member at knotty hill december 2006 after playing the course on and off for a few years now. A and b course is not too hilly and a little shorter which is ideal for the higher handicaps but still a challenge all the same c and d course is a lot longer and harder with more water and more challenging holes the greens are very good with nice soft fairways.for the price you pay i would recomend a visit you will not be dissapointed

Trimdon, County Durham

Review of Trimdon by jean on July 13th, 2012
trimdon village co durham Interesting to read Brian MCKEOWNS report on Trimdon i live in same street as his mam and dad and was bridesmaid when he was a best man to Norman Sadler one of his mates.I have lived in Trimdon most of my life leaving to live in Maidenhead after my marriage but returning after a divorce.I was married in St Mary Magdeline Church on the green where Tony Blair told the Media of Princess Diannas death. My son also married in this Church as he married a local girl.I ENJOYED VILLAGE LIFE and never settled in London.I dont drive so I can only say the public transport is no longer reliable as a pensioner they have given us bus passes but cut out a lot of bus services .Luckily most of the younger generation as this would be a problem in their working lives.jean

Review of Trimdon by Brian McKeown on March 17th, 2011

Wolsingham, County Durham

Review of Wolsingham by Burns on November 26th, 2010
From an Expat Weardale couple - This is an example of what a pub SHOULD NOT BE - Cold - dark, unwelcoming - terrible food and London priced drinks, much of which was unavailable ! Don't go, unless you are a masochist.

Review of Wolsingham by Arlene & Peter on August 4th, 2010
We have a caravan in Stanhope and have had many a meal in the Bay House Wolsingham, and i have to say every meal we have had has been beautiful, great staff and very friendly. Well worth a visit..
