Sawrey is a picturesque village skirting the western edge of Lake Windemere, cloaked by soul pleasing countryside in the county of Cumbria. The village has attractive white painted cottages and quiet lanes, and is overlooked by the woodland of Claife Heights . It's renowned for it's link with the acclaimed children's author Beatrix Potter who moved here in 1896, the village and stunning countryside inspired memorable characters, Hilltop, was Beatrix Potter's home that was built in the 17th Century, now it's an intriguing museum with her furniture and fabulous drawings proudly on display, and for any aspiring authors a must. Sawrey is a combination of two villages Near Sawrey, and Far Sawrey positioned betwixt Hawkshead and Lake Windermere, the Ferry crosses the Lake which mirrors Mother Nature's beauty as it journeys Bowness. There's a chance to follow in the footsteps of Beatrix Potter with Moss Eccles Tarn, where fishing for brown trout is the order of the day, she enjoyed fishing from a small rowing boat that is now part of an impressive collection at the Steam Boat Museum where visitors have a chance to climb aboard for an unforgettable boat trip on Lake Windermere. After walking and sailing perhaps take a seat in Grizedale Forest Theatre for an enjoyable performance.
