The village of Wroxall in Warwickshire is to be found conveniently located between the M42 and M40 motorways making this a superb location for its residents. The history of the village stretches back to before the 12th century however it was in the 12th century that a Benedictine Priory was established here. Much of the original building was subsequently demolished however what remained is to be found today at the Wroxall Estate, an hotel and conference centre. Set in its own grounds and with a story to tell for depicted within its stained glass windows is part of the history of one of the Priory’s former owners, Sir Hugh de Hatton who fought in The Crusades and was imprisoned in Jerusalem. In the 18th century the building was sold to Sir Christopher Wren who designed and built St Paul’s cathedral in London, but who lived here for many years. The village’s historical influence does not end there for it was here in Wroxall that the father of William Shakespeare lived for a time in the 16th century. Today the village of Wroxall has found popularity with its residents because of its convenient location with its rural surroundings, Wroxall is a true oasis of calm here in the countryside of Warwickshire.
