To the south of Solihull and conveniently close to the junction of the M40 and M42 lies the village of Hockley Heath. Ironically it is transport that has determined the success of Hockley Heath, a village that straddles the A34 and to its south the Stratford on Avon canal. Originally a farming community, it is believed that its present name is a derivation of Huckeloweth as it was known in the 13th century. The A34 connects Birmingham with Stratford on Avon and it is this ancient highway together with the canal that is directly attributable to the growth of the village as it is today. Hockley Heath Village manages to combine the old and the new more successfully than many other villages, the local homes are a mixture of the old and new whilst local residents are well served by the local shopping area and welcoming pubs. In many respects Hockley Heath hasn’t changed over the years, originally an important staging post for travellers between London and the Midlands the village of Hockley Heath still today plays host to many a weary traveller, set as it is, amidst the rolling countryside of the area, whilst for the residents there possibly isn’t anywhere that they would rather live
