Overseal is a pleasant rural village set within southern Derbyshire on the border of Leicestershire, and is home to just over two thousand people. It was once part of the District of Seal where many small settlements formed to make both Overseal, and Netherseal nearby. It's mining heritage which played an important role across the years with the growth of the village is not forgotten and can be seen today with the Colliery Winding Wheel which is set outside of the school, the village which was once renowned for it's mineral extraction draws visitors and holiday makers alike as it lies at the centre of the beautiful National Forest. There is a wide range of places to stay from a historic Georgian B&B, cottages, and a campsite nearby. It's surrounded by beautiful countryside where a network of footpaths can be enjoyed together with the close proximity of the National Cycle Path. A stroll around the village will soon reveal an attractive 19th Century church dedicated to St Mathew which has lovely stained glass windows and a tower; at the heart of the village stands the Inn which continues to welcome visitors, there's a Post Office and well stocked General Store for that essential purchase, although the busy Market town of Swadlincote is only three miles or so away.
