Charlesworth is a charming village in the High Peaks, on the edge of the Pennines in Derbyshire, where attractive scenery and dramatic landscapes unfurl like a precious carpet. The village was famed for it’s Cotton Spinners in centuries past, and today a trip to the New Mills Heritage Centre will share the intriguing story of times past, why not stroll along the Torrs Gorge where magical scenery is punctuated by old Mills and Weirs, or for history of a different kind the ruins of Melandra Castle is a legacy from the Romans. Museum lovers will enjoy Portland Basin Museum where a 1920’s street, shops, and houses are sure to please, and ancient medical equipment and demons of dentistry will ensure toes curl, or perhaps climb aboard a boat trip along the Ashton Canal. Or there is always the fascinating story waiting to be shared at the Anson Engine Museum. Or for a touch of elegance and romance there is bewitching Lyme Hall, where a tour around the opulent rooms will discover fine furniture and intricate tapestries, outside the enchanting grounds took centre stage during the filming of Pride And Prejudice, and although sadly Mr Darcy has long gone, the lake conjures memories of the most pleasing kind.
