At the mouth of the river Teign in South Devon lies the popular resort town of Teignmouth. A modern activity packed town which still manages to retain the look and feel of the traditional seaside resort. While the grand pier looks pretty much as it did when built in 1867, alongside the traditional it now features attractions including children’s play area, adventure golf course and multi-use games area. There is also a bowling green, tennis court and paddling pool to keep visitors of all ages amused. Take to the water in a Riviera cruise and enjoy the scenery from a pleasure boat, go dolphin spotting in the bay or try your hand at some deep sea fishing. The wide sandy beaches and mild climate make Teignmouth the perfect location for a family holiday. Visitors are warned that while lifeguards patrol the beaches in season, there are dangerous currents at the mouth of the river. Away from the seafront, there is the Bitton House Orangery, with many varieties of fruit and flowers on display, plus the Riviera and Carlton Theatre for film and drama. And for a history of the area, spend some time at the town’s museum on French Street.
