Set among the luscious green hills of North Devon is the ancient market town of Holsworthy. It is ideally situated as a centre from which to visit Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor and provides access to the famous Tarka Trail. Holsworthy is a traditional market town and still hosts a thriving cattle market, the highlight of this rural town’s activities. A regular market is held in the town Square every Wednesday alongside a Women’s Institute market, providing an opportunity for locals to meet and to mingle with and extend a warm Devon welcome to visitors. Holsworthy has a good assortment of traditional inns, pubs and tea rooms. Outside of the town many local farms provide accommodation. Just off Market Square is the Holsworthy Museum, run by enthusiastic volunteers and providing a glimpse at the almost forgotten rural way of life. A short distance from Holsworthy, a tranquil day’s fishing and boating can be enjoyed on Tamar and Roadford Lakes. Walkers and ramblers can explore beautiful spots including the rugged cliffs at the Hartland Peninsula, the sandy beaches at Bude and Widemouth Bay. Holsworthy contrasts the peace of rural Devon with convenient access to more lively attractions within Devon and Cornwall.
