Brixham forms part of Torbay. Brixham is a historic fishing port at the southern end of Torbay. The town has built its holiday and business infrastructure around this ancient port and its heritage. In 1688, Brixham had its place in the English Revolution as Prince William of Orange landed at the port on his way to claim the throne of England as King William III. Brixham is also famous for "Abide with Me", the well known hymn, written by Henry Francis Lyte.

It is the harbour of Brixham however, together with its narrow streets and colourful cliff cottages that bestows its unique nature and fascination. For anyone interested in maritime history, aquatic sports, or the freedom of sky and shoreline, then Brixham will satisfy your every desire! It is not too hard to imagine the infamous Devon smugglers using one of the many coves and inlets to land their booty in and around Brixham or the fishermen enjoying a much needed refreshment in one of the many quaint watering holes after weeks at sea. To visit the other towns of Torbay there is a regular ferry and pleasure boat service which runs across the Bay to Torquay during the summer season, linking Brixham to its bigger brother, Torquay and its sister town Paignton
