The village of St Leonards is situated along the A31 road in the rural county of Dorset. It is part of the parish of St Leonards and St Ives, which has a total population of over six thousand. The parish was first formed in 1932 from parts of the Ringwood and Christchurch parishes. St Leonards is lies just to the north of the Bournemouth and Poole urban areas. The name St Leonards has been used in reference to this area for many centuries and is believed to be pre-Doomsday Book. The name of St Ives appears to be much more recent, dating from the 18th century. There is believed to have been a St Leonard upon whom the name was based but there has never been a St Ive. St Leonards is a good base from which to visit Dorset and the New Forest, which lies just a few miles east along the A31. The New Forest is a wildlife paradise and a walker's heaven. There are many wonderful guided and unguided walks, giving an insight into the history, geology, wildlife and folklore of the forest. For food, accommodation, or even your wedding; the St Leonards Hotel will cater for your needs.
