Kingsclere is a pretty village with an interesting history, surrounded by beautiful hilly countryside in the county of Hampshire. The village played an important role in the production of wool during Medieval times, part of this legacy remains today with enchanting houses, cottages, and ancient inns peppered throughout the village. The stunning countryside and Watership Down attracts lovers of the great outdoors, and rewards those who dare with ancient Hill Forts on Beacon Hill and Ladle Hill. St Mary's Church dates back to Norman times where the magnificent arches and gem coloured stained glass rewinds the centuries in a flash, or there's always the Millennium Trail through the village where an intriguing story is waiting to be told. Links with ancient monarchs were forged with both King Alfred and King John visiting here, it was whilst King John stayed overnight in the village that his rest was disturbed with bed bugs, he declared that the church should remember his bad nights rest by placing a bug for all to see, legends surround the church where today finds a weather vane depicting the infamous bed bug. Although the bed bugs have all gone, apart from the one on the church of course, the only itch that visitors get is to explore this interesting village so prettily placed.
