Despite Cadnam being a hamlet within the boundaries of the New Forest, it boasts three pubs, The White Hart, Sir John Barleycorn and The Coach and Horses as well as a hotel, Bartley Lodge. Situated at the start of the M27 at junction one, it was called after Cadda, a man who owned a farmstead or ham, its history traced to early Iron Age times. Now in the parish of Copythorne, 3000 live in Cadnam, Copythorne and surrounding villages and hamlets. Traditional farming, IT, metalcraft and thatching are some pursuits as well as cricket at the Cadnam Cricket Club who play on Lambs Corner Ground, the Cadnam Show Society offering horse events at Terry’s Lawn, Netmarsh from June to September. As well as being being the oldest watering holes in the Forest, the Annual Copythorne Carnival, now in its 59th year, is part of the parish’s community spirit.
