Broxbourne is a commuter town in Borough of Broxbourne in east Hertfordshire just off the A10 and very near to Hoddesdon. The Borough covers 20 square miles, is surrounded by green-belt protected countryside and has much woodland. It encompasses the large towns of Cheshunt, Waltham Cross and Goffs Oak with the valley of the River Lea forming it’s eastern boundary (a tributary of The Thames). There is also the Lea Navigation Canal, still in operation with boat hire and many pubs along the towpaths. The town is probably best known for housing the Paradise Wildlife Park - junction 25 off the M25, a family run leisure and wildlife park with monkeys, tigers, camels and lots more in a wood to the west of Broxbourne. The Park’s unique feature is that visitors can get so close to the animals, feeding them etc as well as having 3 themed adventure playgrounds, rides for the children and other new attractions. There is the only rowing club in Hertfordshire here, on the River Lea and in connection with this is the fact that the London 2012 Summer Olympics will be hosting the white-water kayak and canoe slalom event.
