This ancient village is situated in the oddly named Parish of Melksham Without. Dating back to at least AD 1275 the village developed in a ribbon pattern along what is now the busy A350. It is linked by footpaths to the Old Roman Road near Laycock and also to the market town of Melksham. Village life in Beanacre centres around the St. Barnabas Church and Church Hall and the recently developed village recreation area. Built in 1886, St. Barnabas Church replaced a private chapel at the Manor House as the only place of formal Anglican worship available in the village. The church was built of coursed rubble stone in the style of the 13th century and features a 14th century font that came from the Church of St. Michael in Melksham. Visitors to the village are treated to wonderful views of the surrounding Wiltshire countryside allowed by the spacious layout of this hamlet. Despite having a population of only 300 the village boast a good hotel and restaurant in the form of the Beechfield House Hotel, a striking late Victorian country house set in its own grounds. This makes it an ideal place to stay for reaching nearby attractions.
