Wigan is a surprising place. There is a good mixture of character, history, heritage and transition. Situated roughly halfway between Manchester and Liverpool, the town centre is vibrant with fantastic amenities including excellent shopping facilities, a huge collection of pubs, clubs and restaurants, good accommodation, with tranquil countryside and lakes nearby, and award-winning attractions to satisfy all. The town boasts the English Premier Football Leagues new boys Wigan Athletic Football Club. To reach these heights when you consider that the club was in non leage football 30 years ago and is situated in a predominantly Rugby League town is all the more remarkable It is also the home to the world famous Wigan Pier and the delightful Haigh Country Park. Population 82,000
