If when you think of Salford you think of dark satanic mills then you couldn’t be more wrong. It is true that during the 18th and 19th century Salford built its reputation on the mills and manufacturing making it the engine house of the North West in terms of cotton production and heavy industries but the 20th century saw this area on the outskirts of Manchester in the North West of England suffer with competition from other, cheaper producers. Courtesy of the Industrial Revolution the area benefited from excellent communication links in terms of road, rail and canal infrastructure and this was to greatly help the area regenerate itself towards the end of the 20th Century. Salford covers around 37 square miles and the districts of Salford, Eccles, Worsley, Cadishead, Swinton and Pendlebury with a population of approximately 220,000 people. Salford’s proximity to Manchester means that it is today a popular place to live and visit as you have the benefit of what both these areas can offer. The canals through Salford have now been rejuvenated and form an integral part of recent developments. Today Salford is home to The Imperial War Museum North at the Salford Quays alongside The Lowry Museum which houses LS Lowry’s fabulous collection of what made Salford great. The executive apartments make the Quays a spectacular destination for visitors and residents alike.
