Rothley is a delightful village close to the River Soar and five miles from Leicester, dating back to Saxon times, the 12th Century church of St Mary and St John will have artists reaching for a brush and the curious gazing at the Saxon cross in the churchyard. The pretty countryside begs to be explored not least the walk along ‘The Ridgeway’ brings you to a fabulous station on the ‘Great Central Steam Railway’ set in the period of 1910. No visit would be complete without seeing the Rothley Temple and Chapel, although now is part of Rothley Hotel, still shows that it was home to ‘The Knights Templar’, inside the chapel look up at the 13th and 15th Century roof beams, with tapestries and many features you are whisked back in time. Why not bring your clubs as Rothley Park Golf Course set in 150 acres of parkland has 18 holes to enjoy. Or a visit to ‘Belgrave Hall Museum’ shows life both upstairs and downstairs, or perhaps ‘Abbey Pumping Station’ will quicken your senses as the exhibits of science, and technology unfold. Or hold on as the ‘National Space Centre’ launches you into a truly wonderful space experience.
