Lutterworth is a pretty Market Town located in southern Leicestershire, and was granted it’s Market Charter in 1214 by King John and the tradition carries on today, 16th Century half timbered houses are peppered around. St Mary’s Church dating back to the 12th Century, has impressive wall paintings and a little more recent is the tapestry to commemorate the Millennium. The leafy town is a pleasure to stroll around not least for the shops and restaurants and old Coaching Inns. Lutterworth Museum gives an interesting insight into the local history with plenty to see. Or perhaps be amazed at the Falconry and Fishing Centre where the grace and strength of Hawks, Falcons, Buzzards and Owls soar overhead. Or why not take a trip around one of the oldest Public Schools in England, Rugby School was the birth place of rugby, and has educated many a famous person, started in 1567 and has helped many on their way through the ages Lewis Carroll attended here. The Museum tells the fascinating history and story of Rugby with lots of interesting exhibits. If the open space of 100 acres tempts you then a visit to Fosse Meadows Nature Park surely won’t disappoint, with woodland and pretty flowering hay meadows and many species of wildlife to be seen add ‘Fosse Way’ and the River Soar and this is a recipe for enjoyment. Perhaps the magical beauty of Narrow boats sailing and swans gliding on a canal is wished for, then Foxtons Locks set in stunning countryside, where the Grand Union Canal meanders for miles, with tow paths beckoning walkers although artists and photographers will linger, for those curious of the history of the canal a visit to the museum will share it’s secrets. Lutterworth will tempt her visitors to linger, whilst happy memories are made.
