Birstall is a large village in the county of Leicestershire, and is home to nearly eleven thousand people, the village dates back to Saxon times, and from a small agricultural settlement it grew and expanded with the arrival of the railways, and still has a pleasing mix of houses and buildings from across the ages including picturesque timber framed cottages which tempt artists and photographers. Interesting shops, bars and restaurants are easy to find and a range of pubs offering coffee or something a little stronger. With Grand Union Canal at the bottom edge of the village there's also the chance for a stroll along the tow path where an abundance of wildlife is to be seen.
