Wembley is world-famous as the home of English football, with the Stadium hosting some of the most awe-inspiring events in sporting, musical and social history - from England's 1966 World Cup soccer victory and Bob Geldof's Live Aid concert in 1985 to appearances by such luminaries as Nelson Mandela and Pope John Paul II. The new national Stadium, rising from the ashes of the old and dearly beloved Twin Towers, is a world-class venue befitting the 21st Century, and it is expected to play some part in the 2012 Olympics. The Stadium, with its unmistakeable arch, stands at the centre of a whole new landscape. Its age-old companion Wembley Arena, an indoor entertainments venue, has been modernised and is now fronted by a Square Of Fame, which features the handprints of various music legends including Madonna. Some 70 acres of surrounding land is being transformed into a contemporary development that includes houses, shops, offices and leisure facilities. Meanwhile, the Wembley Business & Exhibition Centre caters for conferences and corporate functions in two state-of-the-art buildings. Elsewhere in Wembley, Fountain Studios is home to TV shows such as "The X Factor". The area has excellent tube, rail and road connections.
