Northwood is a picturesque suburb of Greater London on the north-west border with Hertfordshire. Here, in Kewferry Road, the BBC filmed the setting for its popular sitcom "The Good Life". Much of Northwood has been declared a conservation area to protect beautiful period buildings and scenic townscapes including the lovely, leafy Dene Road and the private Copsewood Estate, home to some gorgeous multi-million-pound mansions. Northwood is separated from its close neighbour South Oxhey by Oxhey Woods, a 240-acre nature reserve that bursts into life in springtime with carpets of wood anemones and bluebells. A small settlement, Northwood boasts no less than three golf courses - Northwood, Sandy Lodge and Haste Hill. Nearby, in the appealing town of Rickmansworth, is the famous Moor Park course whose club, in a grand house, welcomes the public. At the same time, visitors to Northwood are only three miles away from the contemporary attractions of Watford, with its excellent shopping, nightlife and culture. Harefield, by contrast, is a delightful country village ranged round a prize-winning green. Northwood's main claim to fame - apart from famous residents including Screaming Lord Such and Linford Christie - is as the location of a British Army HQ directing overseas missions.
