The busy streets of Marylebone, in central London, contain so many first-class attractions that the visitor would do well to keep a couple of days free to see everything. Side by side in Marylebone Road stand Madame Tussauds, the ever-popular waxworks gallery now also including interactive exhibits, and the starry Planetarium. In the same road is the esteemed Royal Academy of Music, which hosts a living museum. Not far away, at a famous address in Baker Street, life imitates art as a policeman in period uniform welcomes guests into the Sherlock Holmes Museum, a recreation of the Victorian house shared by Holmes and Doctor Watson in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional stories. The Wallace Collection in Manchester Square displays exquisite 18th and 19th Century artworks, while BBC Broadcasting House caters for a more contemporary fascination. Marylebone is a place of contrasts, its roaring main roads leading off into elegant squares and gracious roads which preserve an array of excellent Georgian housing and a continuing medical occupation in Harley Street, Wimpole Street and the Portland Hospital, birthplace of many celebrity babies, in Great Portland Street. Bordering Marylebone are the shopping opportunities of Oxford Street and the wonderfully scenic Regent's Park.
