East Sheen is a favourite spot for many visitors. Here, they may relax and enjoy the tranquil scenery and rich attractions of the capital's south west, with the bustling excitement of central London only a twenty-minute train ride away. East Sheen is found south of Mortlake, the area with which it's now widely associated. Historically, though, it's equally linked to Richmond - the former Shene - which lies to its west. East Sheen is a residential suburb with tree-lined streets and large houses fetching grand prices, well served by high-street stores on the Upper Richmond Road, a shopping centre and a lively programme of community events at the Sheen Lane Centre. Its greatest benefits, however, are two commons, both leading directly into the magnificent Richmond Park. Palewell Common offers woodland walks and a variety of sports such as pitch and putt, tennis, cricket and football. The 52-acre Sheen Common, a National Trust property, also has a woodland and pond, managed to encourage wildlife, and sports including tennis, bowling, football and cricket. In East Sheen, the visitor is perfectly placed to explore the delights of Richmond, Kew, Twickenham, Wimbledon, Hampton Court Palace, Brentford's Syon Park and the Wetland Centre in Barnes.
