Newton By The Sea is a picturesque coastal village in Northumberland, which is perfectly placed at the northern end of Embledon Bay. The beautiful bay gently curves, and is edged by a soft sandy beach. The area has an intriguing history and grew from a tiny fishing hamlet in times past, which has continued across the centuries with fishermen fishing for lobster, herring and turbot. There's interesting architecture around with pretty white washed cottages that line the roads, an unusual 19th Century church dedicated to St Mary The Virgin which is fashioned from corrugated steel, and a picturesque village square that has a welcoming Inn, and steps onto to the beautiful Bay where there are stunning views over to the ruins of Dunsthanbrugh Castle which is perched high on the nearby cliff tops. Artists are constantly drawn to the spectacular and haunting beauty of the area, which often entices swimmers, and surfers to have fun when surf's up. There are a few shops for that forgotten purchase, and there is always a chance to explore the pleasing coastal walks with a bracing sea breeze for company.
