Bicester is a town in the Cherwell district of north-eastern Oxfordshire, 12 miles from Oxford. It is a thriving market town and the historic Market Place is actually a triangle. In and around Market Place are numerous listed buildings dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, including Old Place Yard with its turreted dovecote. Pubs include the Swan Inn, Six Bells, Bluecoats, and Crick House on Church Street. The ruins of the Roman settlement of Alchester and the remains of a 12th century Augustinian priory are found 1.5 miles from the town centre. The town has a long-standing connection to the military. The British Army's largest ordnance depot - the Central Ordnance Depot of the Royal Logistic Corps - is located just outside the town. The Bicester Military Railway is located within the depot. There is also a former Royal Air Force station, now Bicester Airfield. Bicester is also the location of the factory designer outlet Bicester Village Shopping Centre. Bicester has at least 8 churches under the Churches Together banner, including the ancient Parish Church of St Edburgs - dedicated to the eldest daughter of Edward the Elder. The Bicester Country Club contains an 18 hole golf course plus health club and spa facilities.
