Antrim, in the north-east of Northern Ireland, is a place of great variety. Those who like pubs, restaurants and shopping will find plenty to do in the town, which boasts an international discount shopping centre and retail park. Antrim is situated on the Six Mile Water river only half a mile from Lough Neagh, the UK's biggest freshwater lake. Nature-lovers will enjoy the scenery and birdlife of Lough Shore Park, which also offers water sports and, for kids, the chance to sail on a pirate ship. The adjacent Rea's Wood is a National Nature Reserve. Numerous sporting and adventurous activities can be enjoyed in Antrim, from fishing and golfing to flying lessons. Sailing, windsurfing and paintballing are hosted by Shane's Castle Estate where the castle ruins can still be seen. Elsewhere, the remains of Antrim Castle include a hexagonal tower, a fort (now a viewing platform), the entrance gate and a former coach house currently housing Clotworthy Arts Centre. The fabulous castle gardens, also including a canal, a burial ground, a motte and a six-arched bridge, are warmly recommended. Guided tours and heritage trails show visitors around Antrim's many historic sights including the fine, monastic Round Tower and Witch's Stone.
