Lochboisdale is an historic fishing port positioned on the southern headland of the Isle of Uist, in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, and it is home to just over six hundred people. From a small agricultural settlement Lochboisdale thrived with the onset of the Herring Industry and an important Fishing station was built here in the latter part of the 1800's. When the industry boomed, a Steamer Pier was built forging a link with the nearby Islands; and a hotel was built to cater for the needs of the Fishermen which still remains today. Today's visitors can still uncover wild and dramatic scenery with views to Canna and the Island of Rum which attracts walkers and cyclists constantly. For those who are tempted to stay there are a few B&B's and the 19th Century Hotel overlooking the Harbour and the Loch which is still offering a warm welcome. There are a couple of Harbourside shops, a Post Office and a Ferry Terminus. There's beautiful white shell beaches, a church which was built in 1905, and the remnants of a castle found beneath the Pier which was destroyed by Cromwell's soldiers in the 17th Century with the bloody battles fought during the Civil War.
