Ronnie Corbett

Ronnie Corbett’s career as an actor and comic lasted for more than 60 years. He enjoyed memorable moments in The Frost Report in the 1960s, though he’d already worked in films, West End Musicals, and even been part of the early days of Crackerjack before that. The Frost Report sparked his enduring and endearing comedic partnership with Ronnie Barker, its fruits including the legendary Four Candles/Fork Handles sketch, but he was probably at his best as a sit down as opposed to stand up comedian. Corbett’s diminutive size was framed for emphasis in the large armchair from which he told rambling tales-within-tales before almost miraculously bringing us back to the long-awaited punch-line at the end. The joke hardly mattered, it was the timing and masterly technique that amused us more. The tiny man was a comic giant.
