Shefford is a Market Town in the county of Bedfordshire that was once home to the Romans, although it’s now inhabited by 5400 townsfolk it was much smaller when it was granted it’s Market Charter back in 1225, and still continues the tradition every Friday with it‘s weekly Market. The delightful town sits on the banks of the River Hit and The River Ivel and has many attractive buildings, just a mile from the town centre is Hoo Hill Maze which is an entertaining interlude, if the Sun is shining why not take a pic-nic. Or there is always the wonders on offer at Stondon Transport Museum, with stunning Classic cars from the beginning of the Century, Tanks and Aircraft, there’s even a replica of Captain Cook’s ship The Endeavour waiting to be explored. Or perhaps the fine art on offer at Hitchin Museum and Art Gallery is more for you, with many exhibits of local artists, the photographic displays are thought provoking and date back to 1850. Or be prepared to be amazed at the detail in the chemist shop of the 1790’s as it shows how things have changed throughout the centuries. Shefford and the surrounding area will satisfy the most discerning visitor.
