The small town of Alyth is situated in Perthshire, Tayside at the foothills of the Grampian Mountains, close to the Angus Glens, Kirriemuir and Forfar and within half an hour of Perth and Dundee. It has a population of over two thousand. With its Market Square and play park, it has developed around Alyth Burn, or Queich which rises well above the Den of Alyth, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest. Close to Glamis Castle, Scone Palace, distilleries and Royal Deeside. Scottish golf vacation accommodation. Walk Perthshire and The Angus Glens, visit Scottish Castles. Walk the Cateran Trail, a five night serviced walk passes Bridge of Cally, Glenshee, Glenisla, Kirkmichael and Blairgowrie. In town, crossing the burn, is the Pack bridge dating from the 16th century. The older part of the town is dominated by 'The Arches' part of the remains of an ancient Church and graveyard. James Sandy, Alyth's "mechanical genius" rests here. In summer, the Folk Museum offers an insight to farming life in times past in the Strathmore Valley. The area is well served by quality hotels, guest houses, inns, pubs, restaurants, chinese carry out, hardware, food and craft shops. There are several excellent local restaurants with varied menus, including Strathmore and Glenisla golf clubs.
