Primrose Cottage is a warm and friendly family run establishment. A typically English country cottage standing in approximately half an acre of landscaped gardens, tucked away in the tiny conservation village of Little Oakley. It is built of local stone and dates from around the 17c, although local historians believe it to be earlier, as some of the foundations appear to be Norman and as the lovely 13c church of St Peters' is nearby this may well be true.

In 1986, we purchased the cottage; part of the Duke of Buccleuch’s estate at nearby Boughton House, and over several years added to it, upwards and outwards. All the work undertaken has been completed, very sympathetically by my husband and myself and has been a labour of love for both of us. We have kept the true character of the cottage by exposing oak beams, window seats and an inglenook fireplace with its original Salt Hole not dissimilar to the one at nearby Rockingham Castle, but of course on a smaller scale.

Guests normally eat in the dining room, heated by log fires in winter or, in summer, when weather permits, often chose to eat outdoors in one of the secluded areas of our pretty flower filled gardens.

We have a large cottage garden with a fishpond and a stream where guests often sit watching the wildlife in and around the pond. Adjoining the garden there is a small paddock, where at the bottom Harpers brook runs by, often frequented by kingfishers. The paddock is used to grow fruit and vegetables for our own use and guests sample this in our home cooking. The cottage has a large gated gravel drive with parking for several cars.
