Off shore, the sea angler has a great variety of fish from the warmingGulf Stream of the Solway Firth. Our beaches are some of the finest in the country, easily accessible. Or try water ski-ing, wind surfing or sailing on picturesque Loch Ken. Walkers and cyclists are now particularly well catered for. Sample the solitude and beauty of our Galloway hills including the Southern Upland Way. Cycle or walk ins one of our Forest Parks, no queues, picnic, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Cycle hire is available in town and we are now part of the National Cycle Route no. 7. There is also Lochken Sailing Centre, where you can try your hand at sailing, wind surfing, kayaking etc. There are many Castles, Stately Homes, Museums &. National Trust Properties. The well known Threave Gardens incorporating the School of Gardening and Historical Castle are only a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Our own Carlingwark Loch in town is a mere 3 minutes away where you can boat, play tennis, squash, putting and enjoy the views over Screel.
