Restaurants in Monument
Perched on the south mezzanine of the impressive Grade I-listed Royal Exchange in London, Sauterelle overlooks its less formal Conran sibling, the Grand Café & Bar. Elegant, dressy and relaxed, it serves as a haven for lunching City execs and well-heeled shoppers. Inspired by the French bourgeois style of cooking, Stuart Smith's beautifully simple menu features seasonal and classic dishes including roast lobster with garlic and herbs, and Chateaubriand steak with dauphinoise potato and béarnasie sauce enjoyed, perhaps, with a bottle of house champagne. The prix fixe menu is equally noteworthy - for the quail eggs sauteed wild mushrooms, Hollandaise sauce and puff pastry. For afters, may we recommend the winter fruit salad, served warm from the pan. Service is spot on, with the team's bonhomie striking just the right chord.
